Sustainability

This institutional page is designed to guide our partners through the landscape of sustainability initiatives, offering tools and resources to support a more responsible tourism offering.

Swisstainable Destination

Thanks to continuous commitment and a shared vision with various regional partners, OTRMBC was able to nominate its region and obtain the Swisstainable Destination Level I – committed classification from the Swiss Tourism Federation. The strengths that led to this recognition include the harmonious integration of nature, culture, local communities, wine and gastronomy, sports and leisure activities, along with the promotion of sustainable regional development in cooperation with local partners.

Our commitment

As part of the shared tourism strategy between Ticino Turismo and the four Regional Tourism Organizations (OTR), with a 2030 horizon, sustainability stands as one of the key pillars among the strategic priorities. Through our participation in several initiatives and partnerships, Ticino Turismo is committed to reducing its ecological footprint and promoting more sustainable tourism throughout the destination.

Since 2022, we have been part of Swisstainable, a national program launched by Switzerland Tourism. In 2024, we updated our action plan and completed the simplified CSR report of the Chamber of Commerce of the Canton of Ticino for the year 2023, obtaining a Declaration of Compliance with a score of 28 out of 30. This document, along with the OK:GO certificate received in 2021, enabled us to achieve Swisstainable Level II – engaged.

Discover more in our CSR sustainability report, and learn how we strive to be a more sustainable organization and advocate for responsible tourism practices.

In addition to the page dedicated to sustainable holidays, which showcases best practices and highlights in sustainability, Ticino Turismo and the OTR, together with Quantis, a leading sustainability consulting firm, have developed an action plan aimed at positioning Ticino as a benchmark in sustainable tourism. The region's next major goal is to become a Swisstainable Destination Level I, thus joining the program as a full-fledged sustainable tourism destination.

Our ambition is clear: "We are committed to the sustainable transformation of our destination through an authentic tourism offering that respects nature and people, today and for future generations." Ticino's sustainability strategy is structured into five key action areas that require priority implementation: Climate and Nature, Mobility, Land and Identity, People, Governance.

MY BLUE PLANET

In collaboration with the Ente Regionale per lo sviluppo del Mendrisiotto e Basso Ceresio, we launched a project with MyBluePlanet as part of the ClimateActions 4 Companies initiative. This initiative involves three regional parks (Parco del Penz, Parco delle Gole della Breggia, and Parco della Valle della Motta) with the goal of networking them to develop educational and informational content related to climate protection, with a particular focus on water and waste management.

The project's ultimate aim is to raise environmental awareness among both local and visiting park guests, encouraging greater climate-conscious behaviour and more sustainable choices in daily life.

The Ente Regionale per lo sviluppo del Mendrisiotto e Basso Ceresio supports this initiative, which has already fostered connections and synergies among the region's parks. This collaboration lays the groundwork for an even stronger partnership under the future name Parchi momò, to promote and enhance the area through shared sustainability practices.

AITI4Welfare

AITI4Welfare is a digital platform designed to foster a more engaged and productive organizational culture.

As part of our commitment to a more sustainable future, we have joined AITI4Welfare, an initiative promoted by the Ticino Industries Association (AITI) to support sustainable practices and enhance community well-being. This commitment translates into tangible actions to reduce environmental impact, promote the circular economy, and add value to our territory, contributing to a more eco-conscious tourism experience.

  • SWISSTAINABLE
  • SIMPLIFIED CSR REPORT
    • The Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Handicrafts and Services of the Canton of Ticino (CC-Ti), in collaboration with SUPSI and the Department of Finance and Economy (DFE), has developed a simplified CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) reporting model.

The CSR report is a document that collects a company’s best practices, providing a framework to report on economic performance, social impact, and environmental responsibility.

Completing this report also allows the company to obtain a valid document for compliance with the LCPubb. If a declaration of conformity is available and the report has been published (i.e. at least 15 points have been achieved), it can be used as proof to reach Swisstainable Level II – engaged (in combination with another recognised certification).
