Monte Generoso
Emotions at 1704 m
Panorama, architecture and nature
Monte Generoso is situated in the heart of a nature park known beyond Switzerland’s borders. Standing majestically on the mountain’s rugged plateau is the new “Fiore di pietra“ (stone flower). The building was created by the famous architect Mario Botta and features picture windows that frame the breathtaking panorama.
For 130 years now,the rack railway has been running along a 9 km stretch through the magical mountain landscape of the nature park, from Capolago on Lake Lugano to the summit of Monte Generoso at an altitude of 1704 m. The steam train dating back to 1890 is the oldest still in operation in Switzerland, while the trains from the 1950s transport passengers back to the days of the Belle Époque. There are plenty of things to see and do on Monte Generoso. Whether visitors are looking for relaxing walks surrounded by nature or more strenuous activity out in the fresh mountain air, this is an ideal place to spend time outdoors and immersed in a magnificent landscape.
The new building includes the self-service restaurant “Generoso” with direct access to the terrace and 120 seats each, the “Fiore di pietra” restaurant for 120 people and the conference room “Belvedere” with 100 seats.
