Exposure of the Bagutti

Bagutti’s works will be on display and open to the public in the Parish Church of Saints Cosmas and Damian until Sunday, April 27, 2025, from 7:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.

Giovanni Battista Bagutti was born in Rovio (on the way from Lake Lugano to Val d'Intelvi and Lake Como) on 6 April 1742, into a family of which little is known, but in a small village which, like many in the region on both sides of the border, had a discrete tradition of craftsmen and artists.

In the course of his life, he was responsible for the creation of many transparencies, which are still on display in Mendrisio. In his work, he skilfully reconciled the 18th century tradition with a certain classicist rigour that was decidedly more up-to-date.

The public can freely choose the place where to attend the passage of the processions, but we point out that it is possible to book a seat on the grandstands in Piazza del Ponte:

- by the Infopoint Mendrisiotto Turismo, Stazione FFS Mendrisio
- by writing an e-mail to tribuna@processionimendrisio.ch
- by calling 079 929 58 06 during Holy Week

Note: the number of seats is limited and the seats are not numbered. In case of cancellation of the processions, tickets are refundable only on the spot.
