A tribute to the volunteers and tradition
Heinz Plenge, a Peruvian photographer of international renown, has taken and archived more than 1 million photographs taken while travelling through different continents, focusing on the themes of universal heritage values and the sustainability of tourism. He had never had the opportunity to see the Holy Week Processions in Mendrisio.
He followed every aspect of the preparations for the two processions, collecting documentation, testimonies and working to render the lights and settings, the volunteers and their gazes, as well as all the emotions that characterise the two events. By his own admission, this experience moved him greatly.
