Itinerary among vineyards: the viticultural techniques
Immerse yourself in Switzerland’s southernmost region with its sweet, vineyard-covered hills and its old towns just waiting to be discovered. Stroll amid rows of vines, renowned for the refined wines they produce.
Discover how Mendrisiotto is a land rich with both historical and natural heritage, dating back to Roman times. And all the time, let the magnificent panoramas amaze you.
This looped trail starts from Seseglio, a little hamlet located at the foot of Penz hill. Along the path you take in large areas of vineyards where, thanks to the many info panels, the traditional viticultural techniques can be appreciated. Indeed, the entire Mendrisiotto is characterised by just the right climate and the ideal ratio between rain and sun, for the production of wine.
Under the shade of woods and across the open land occupied by the vineyards, the path reaches Switzerland's southern-most location: a stunning border spot close to the secluded Laghetto area. A little further on, you can enjoy a panoramic view over the houses below, dominated by the commanding Mount Generoso.
Shortly after, the trail reaches the cosy little traditional village of Pedrinate, whose old centre (as the archeological finds dating back to the Roman era testify) was already inhabited in ancient times. From here, on the return journey, you can head towards the little church of Santo Stefano al Colle, where amazing panoramas are waiting for you, over the Muggio valley, the city of Chiasso and the entire region as a whole.
