Chicken brain and rabbit eye
Temporary exhibition dedicated to hens and rabbits.
This exhibition has a double title. "Chicken's brain and rabbit's eye" are expressions that draw on oral tradition, as is our custom in choosing titles. "The chicken has four legs and the rabbit hides eggs" are, on the other hand, phrases uttered by children visiting the museum in past years. We therefore decided to propose a double title to connect two visions of the world, temporally not so distant, in which it is, perhaps, evident how necessary this exhibition was.
In the first exhibition room, the level for adults presents a variety of questions and answers about hens and rabbits, enabling them to learn more about these animals, on a journey that is in the past but also firmly rooted in the present.
The children's level consists of an illustrated strip with some curious information.
In the second room you literally come into contact with the animals of ProSpecieRara (we recommend that the audience, out of respect for the animals, speak softly and do not bang palms and knuckles against glass. Thank you for your cooperation!).
In the large chicken coop live the Attinghausen cockerel (Appenzell bonnet) and the hens Elvezia (Swiss), Conchita (bearded Appenzell) and Punk (Appenzell bonnet). An outdoor henhouse (not accessible to the public) allows the animals (on days when the museum is closed to the public) to roam freely, enjoying the sun, grass and earth.
In the large rabbit hutch live Salmì and Tris (a small mottled Swiss tricolour), mother and daughter.
Then there is the space where, after the hatching of the eggs incubated at the Museum, the chicks live for a few weeks before being delivered to the local ProSpecieRara breeders.
