The Pro Rare Species Centre is in a charming farm yard in the Mendrisiotto.
The activity of the Foundation, which is the safeguarding of rare cultivated plants and livestock, fits in very well in these surroundings.
In the demonstration garden you can see the great diversity of rare vegetables, among them yellow beet or red maize, while the hen coop is populated by Pomeranian ducks and Swiss chickens, both species in danger of extinction.
The courtyard comes to life on market days and when there are courses and other events linked to the topic of traditional farming diversity. Moreover the centre offers guided visits for groups on appointment.
