International Festival  of Literature in Chiasso

ChiassoLetteraria is a festival which reaches its seventh edition in 2012. Each year, usually at the beginning of May, Chiasso is invaded for three days by about twenty meetings, shows and exhibitions of a high quality in the cultural spaces in the town (Spazio Officina, Cinema Teatro, m.a.x. Museum), but also in unexpected places like printing works and railway deposits. Writers, journalists, philosophers and artists are guests in the border town for meetings attended by large intergenerational audiences, also from across the border. It is a unique opportunity for them to meet their favourite writers or to discover new voices in world literature. The distinguishing feature of the festival is the attentive yet informal atmosphere. Apart from a few exceptions admission is free of charge.

Some of the guests of previous editions were: Simonetta Agnello Hornby, Niccolò Ammaniti, Corrado Augias, Vinicio Capossela, Jonathan Coe, Erri De Luca, Paolo Giordano, Alicia Giménez-Bartlett, Josephine Hart, Patrick McGrath, Yasmina Khadra, Björn Larsson, Marta Morazzoni, Hakan Nesser, Piergiorgio Odifreddi, Arto Paasilinna, Leonardo Padura Fuentes, Gino Paoli, Robert Schneider, Vittorio Sermonti, Abraham B. Yehoshua, Patrizia Valduga, Sebastiano Vassalli and William T.Vollmann; and also many Swiss writers and intellectuals like Peter Bichsel, Alex Capus, Eveline Hasler, Georg Kreis, Charles Lewinsky, Mariella Mehr and Ticinese writers such as Alberto Nessi, Giorgio Orelli and Fabio Pusterla.

The Festival is organised by the committee of ChiassoLettteraria, a non-profit association, in collaboration and with the support of the authorities of the town of Chiasso, Canton Ticino and various other public and private supporters at a national and cantonal level; among these is the  Tourist Board of the Mendrisiotto and Lower Ceresio Region.
